Medical Affair Team: Interview with Sahil

Turning Science into Real-world

What does the Medical Affairs team at Mediwhale do?

They’re the bridge between science and strategy, connecting medical expertise with our mission to create real-world impact. Working closely with doctors, hospitals, and experts, they bring valuable insights to the table and help shape how our innovations take root in the medical community. Their work might not always be in the spotlight, but it’s what keeps our solutions trusted, relevant, and ready to make a difference.

Let’s get into the interview and find out.

Tell us about what’s the Medical Affair team does?

The Medical Affairs team at Mediwhale plays a pivotal role in bridging clinical insights with strategic action. Our core responsibility is to act as the interface between healthcare professionals, hospitals, external stakeholders, and internal teams, ensuring scientific and clinical alignment throughout the organization.

We are deeply involved in generating insights, disseminating clinical evidence, and collecting real-world feedback that shapes both our product development and strategic direction. We drive scientific collaboration through our work with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), participate in the generation of high-quality clinical evidence, and support our mission through publications, conference presentations, and stakeholder engagement.

These efforts help ensure that our innovations meet real-world clinical needs and are trusted by the medical community.

Sahil, Medical Affair Team Leader
What are the key responsibilities of the Medical Affairs team?

Our key responsibilities include:

  • Clinical Advisory: Supporting internal teams and external partners with expert clinical guidance to ensure scientific accuracy and real-world applicability.
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB) Submissions: Managing ethical and regulatory approval processes to initiate clinical studies across global sites.
  • Clinical Validation Studies: Designing and executing studies to generate evidence that validates the performance and utility of our diagnostic solutions.
  • Medical Communications: Creating scientifically sound materials for healthcare professionals, including white papers, brochures, presentations, and publications.
  • Research Publications: Generating high-quality, peer-reviewed articles to build the body of evidence supporting our technologies.
Can you share an example where the team’s involvement was critical in successfully deploying a product in a clinical setting?

Yes, a clear example of our critical role was during a product deployment with a leading professor in Greece. Initially uncertain about the clinical accuracy of our technology, the professor needed strong evidence to proceed.

Our team took a hands-on approach:

We conducted an on-site demonstration of our diagnostic platform. We provided a step-by-step explanation of how to interpret the results in real time. To validate our findings, the professor underwent a CT scan that same day, which confirmed the accuracy of our scan’s results.

This immediate, personalized validation convinced the professor of our technology’s reliability and opened the door to further collaboration. This case underscores our team’s unique ability to: Understand what type and depth of evidence each partner requires, and Deliver that evidence in a timely, tailored manner to earn trust and drive clinical adoption.

Although this is a non-clinical role, what are some unique opportunities to grow and learn within the healthcare domain?

Even as a non-clinical role, Medical Affairs offers exceptional exposure to the healthcare ecosystem, enabling team members to:

Understand real-world clinical workflows and how new technologies are evaluated and adopted in hospitals and clinics. Stay up to date with cutting-edge medical science, diagnostics, and innovations in AI-driven healthcare. Learn how to navigate regulatory landscapes (e.g., IRB submissions, study approvals, compliance frameworks). Build a deep network with healthcare professionals, researchers, and global clinical partners, which can be invaluable for future roles in clinical research, strategy, or even entrepreneurship.

Ultimately, this role provides a rare opportunity to learn from top researchers, gain hands-on research and communication experience, and contribute meaningfully to a mission that blends science, technology, and impact-driven healthcare innovation.

How does the Medical Affairs team collaborate with other departments such as R&D, product, sales, or customer success?

At Mediwhale, the Medical Affairs team plays a cross-functional connector role, working closely with departments like R&D, product, sales, marketing, and customer success to ensure our solutions are not only scientifically sound but also practically applicable in real-world settings.

Since Global Medical Affairs is based in Singapore and many other teams are in Korea, we put in extra effort to build camaraderie across time zones and cultures, recognizing that trust and informal connection are just as important as formal alignment.

Our team serves as the clinical voice in product development discussions, provides frontline feedback from physicians to R&D, supports sales and customer success with medical education and tailored messaging, and ensures that everyone from data scientists to business teams understands the clinical “why” behind our solutions.

What projects or changes is the Medical Affairs team currently focusing on?

Right now, the Medical Affairs team is deeply involved in several high-impact initiatives. We are preparing multiple presentations for major international conferences later this year. At the same time, we’re working on the clinical validation of our flagship product, Dr Noon CVD, to support our upcoming FDA submission. This is a critical step in expanding access to our technology in the U.S. market.

We are also supporting post-market regulatory activities in Europe, ensuring continued compliance and evidence generation for our CE-marked products. On the research side, our prospective cohort studies in Dubai, Poland, Greece, and Spain are actively underway. These are helping us understand real-world use and potential new applications of our AI-driven diagnostics across diverse populations. It’s an exciting and fast-moving time for the team.

How would you describe the personalities or working styles of people on the Medical Affairs team?

The Medical Affairs team is composed largely of individuals with clinical training, and that background is reflected in their working style:

We are detail-oriented, meticulous, and driven by evidence-based thinking. Team members tend to approach challenges with the mindset of a clinician, calm under pressure, methodical, and always focus on what’s best for the patient. You’ll also find a high degree of intellectual curiosity and a shared commitment to learning, growth, and integrity.

Even as we step into business or strategic roles, many of us still carry the ethos of the Hippocratic Oath, ensuring that patient benefit is non-negotiable in every decision we make.

We believe in giving people room to innovate, while also providing the structure and support needed to succeed in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

How is the team evolving in the near future, and what kind of people would you love to bring along on that journey?
